Doing the same thing to embrace our unlikeness

This is not a lecture.

We tend to forget this, and I’m here to painfully remind you.

We all have our own story to fight. Yes, I chose the word fight, we’re at war every day. The struggle is not to be underestimated.

We talk to people and judge them as though they don’t have enough happening in their lives. We all come from different places, with different backgrounds, and a totally different perspective on things. I’m not talking about diverse nationalities, I’m referring to every single human being. None of us are alike, and no matter how bad you believe you’ve found your match, love-wise or not, you haven’t.

I’m not telling you about this to lecture you, I’m saying, take it easy on each other. I’m all in for honesty, being blunt, and giving the right piece of advice even if it means creating discomfort. But, stop judging. We all have our own story, our own battle, and it’s never easy.

Whether it’s a life-changing issue or just a momentary one that won’t mean a thing in a few hours, it will affect someone’s mood and the way they might go about things. And you know what, that’s okay, what’s not okay is demeaning the fact that someone is bothered by a situation. You cannot tell people to just get over things and let it go. And if you’re not one who can help others, then back off.

Here we go with you thinking I’m going through a rough patch and need help, or have been treated badly. No, no, I’m perfectly fine, this is just an observation.

See life from a new perspective. When you’re walking down the street, know that every person passing by is thinking about a lot of unresolved problems. When you’re stepping into the office and you spot an angry or sad face, it’s okay, understand they’re having a bad day so far. When your friend would rather you left them alone for now, it’s fine. When your parents scold you and then apologise, take it, it’s not a big deal. We’re only human, and most of the time this is okay.

Could you imagine what the world would look like if only each one of us could simply think this every day?
